Give every square a height
- Neighbours differ by one. Squares side by side always differ in height by exactly 1.
- ▲ summits and ▼ hollows. A summit is higher than all its neighbours, a hollow lower. Every one is marked, and no unmarked square is either.
- Sea level is 0. The lowest square on the map sits at height 0.
That's all. Every map has exactly one answer, and you can reach it by reasoning alone, no guessing.
